Uzbekistan to simplify veterinary permits for meat imports

Enterprises not on the list of foreign exporters will be able to obtain permits for up to 1 year if necessary.

Earlier it was reported that the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan approved measures to support livestock farming and provide the population with food products.

The import of meat and other livestock products will be simplified. Starting from 2026, the period for reviewing veterinary permits and certificates will be reduced. Veterinary control documents for imported products will be issued based on the results of a risk analysis.

If necessary, enterprises that are not included in the list of foreign exporters of products under veterinary control will have the opportunity to obtain veterinary permits for a period of up to 1 year to import the relevant goods.

The list of such cases is determined by the Republican Commission for Food Safety. Products can be imported from countries recognized as free from animal diseases according to the recommendations of the World Organization for Animal Health, provided that there are no bans imposed by local authorities.

Measures will be taken to limit monopolies in the import of meat and livestock into Uzbekistan. The Prosecutor General’s Office and the Competition Committee will examine foreign exporters on the list in order to prevent them from gaining a dominant negotiating position over local importers.

A dedicated hotline for importers will be launched under the Business Ombudsman. It is intended to ensure the prompt resolution of importers’ issues.
